Understanding Your Work Rhythms

Recently, I have been thinking about how I like to work.  Some people prefer to have an even rhythm or energy level to their work life.  I am starting to think that I prefer a high-intensity schedule balanced with periodic breaks.  For some people, working very hard for a period of time and then checking out for days or weeks is best.  For others, it’s a steady 9-5.  I know a very successful entrepreneur, Dan Sullivan, who works 2-3 weeks on, and then COMPLETELY checks out for  a week.  Imagine that?  What would it take to do that?  How would that feel to you? The key is to determine what the best work rhythm is for You and then build a schedule and team to support that.  It doesn’t have to fit with what is traditional or standard.  It’s what works for you and your energy level.  If need be, craft your client schedule to support that.  The rejuvenation that we each get from having a work schedule that synches with our body/mental energy is tremendous.  You’ll find that when you are on, you are more productive and creative.  When you’re off, the time will be fulfilling and rejuvenating.  Think about, and give it a try!

  1. I love that you give permission here for entrepreneurs to break the 9-5 mould and truly consider their work and play to be a rhythm that supports and works with their strengths and energy. Trying to pushyourself into a mould that doesn’t fit will only create frustration and drain energy.
    Thanks for the tip
